Anne Frank: A History for Today

The Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities, in partnership with the Putnam Museum, are bringing the exhibit, Anne Frank: A History for Today, to the Putnam Museum from March 31-May 28, 2012, as the cornerstone of over 2 months of programming throughout the Quad Cities promoting the lessons learned from Anne Frank and the Holocaust.

The Jewish Federation and the Putnam Museum recognize that even 10 years after the events of 9/11, as well as continued acts of terrorism and injustice throughout the world, prejudice and bigotry are as common today as they were when Anne Frank and her family were forced to hide from the Nazis. For the residents of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois, the project, Anne Frank: A History for Today, and related programming, are ways to counter indifference, prejudice, and racism, as well as to promote the dignity, democratic beliefs, and human rights that are critical in our diverse society today.

The audience for the project, Anne Frank: A History for Today, is the general public, 10 years old and above. Since 1985, over five million children and adults in more than 200 communities have seen the Anne Frank exhibits. The book, The Diary of Anne Frank, has been published in more than 66 languages, and more than 40 million copies have been sold.

All the events of this project will target the involvement of area citizens, especially those families with children. We anticipate that schoolchildren will be bused to see this exhibit from a 100-mile radius of the Quad Cities, and that the Putnam Museum and the other programming events will be “must-stop” locations and events for tourists and tour groups.
